Start Feeling Close Again

What Brought You Here

You woke up today with a heavy burden sitting on your chest. You could feel the tension before you even got out of bed. Your partner was right there, and still, there was an ocean between you.

If you are the one who keeps reaching, you have tried everything you know how to try and it is still not working. You are so drained, so exhausted, that even when you want to comfort them, you have nothing left. You look at your kids and pull yourself together because you have to, because they are watching. The guilt is constant, because you cannot give them the stable home they deserve. You are living in your own world, all alone, even when your partner is standing right there.

If you are the one who keeps stepping back, you know a different version of the same pain. Whatever you do, it never feels like enough. You feel rejected, not good enough, and like your own needs are invisible. So you pull away because you are drowning in your own ocean. And as you step back to take a breath, the guilt gets worse, because this is the last thing you want.

You are both exhausted. You are both carrying guilt. You are both grieving the same thing: that attunement, that harmony, the feeling of simply being known by each other.

Imagine if you could shift from...

BEFORE
Feeling on edge or anxious about closeness
Second-guessing your partner's love or carrying quiet shame
Numbing out, shutting down, or withdrawing during conflict
Getting pulled into old reactions (pursuing, distancing, people-pleasing)
AFTER
Feeling safe to lean in and stay emotionally connected
Trusting each other's needs and expressing them openly
Staying present and engaged, even when things feel hard
Responding with calm choice and empathy in the present

Just the steps that we'll journey together:

Step 1: De-escalate
We identify the negative cycle and explore the underlying emotions and attachment needs driving it. This creates safety and shifts blame from each other to the cycle itself.
Step 2: Bond
Partners access and share vulnerable emotions (fears, longings for closeness). We create new moments of emotional responsiveness, helping you both reach for and respond to each other in ways that build secure attachment and break old patterns.
Step 3: Consolidate
New positive cycles become natural. We integrate these secure bonds into daily life, helping you solve problems together, maintain intimacy, and prevent old distress from returning.

Meet  Your Therapist

Hi, I'm Lea, I'm Lea, a licensed mental health counselor offering marriage counseling - Indiana

I'm deeply passionate about attachment theory, relational trauma, and trauma-informed care, with specialized training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.

I work with disconnected couples who are exhausted by endless arguments and the aching silence that follows, couples who have started to feel deeply alone even in the same room as the person they love most.

What I have learned, after working with partners like you, is that the conflict is rarely about what it appears to be on the surface. The argument is not really about who forgot to call or who said the wrong thing. It is about a deeper fear of not being enough, not being seen, not being safe with the one person you chose. When that safety breaks down, one partner reaches harder and the other pulls further away, and the cycle feeds itself until both people are exhausted and wondering what happened to what they had.

My clients come to me carrying that exhaustion. They come in guarded, sometimes skeptical, often having tried things before that did not hold. What they find is a space that does not feel like another thing to manage or perform for. Many clients report that from the very first session, something shifts, because for the first time in a long time, they feel heard. Both of them.

Above all else, my greatest hope is that you find the profound connection you are searching for. It is absolutely possible to rebuild that foundation of trust and intimacy, and you don't have to figure out how to do it all on your own.

Frequently asked questions

How long does couples therapy take?

It varies — many couples see meaningful shifts in 8–20 sessions of weekly work, with deeper bonding unfolding over time. We decide together based on your goals.

What if we don't know our attachment styles yet?

That's common and okay! We'll explore them together through gentle conversation and reflection — no pressure to label right away.

What are your fees?

Couples sessions are $300/75 minutes for the intake session and $250/60 minutes for follow-up sessions. I offer limited sliding scale spots when available — we can discuss this during our free consultation.

Can I book a first session immediately?

What should I expect from it? Yes, you can book your free 15-minute initial consultation or your first 60 minute session here [secure booking link/button]. In the first full session, we'll hear your story as a couple: what brings you here, the patterns/challenges, and your goals. It's a gentle space to build trust, start identifying the cycle, and begin exploring emotions — many couples leave feeling heard and hopeful.

Do you take insurance or provide superbills for PPO/out-of-network reimbursement?

I do not bill insurance directly (sessions are self-pay/cash-pay). As an out-of-network provider, I work with PPO plans and provide monthly superbills (detailed statements) for you to submit for reimbursement. This approach keeps your care fully private—no session notes or treatment plans are shared with insurance—and gives us maximum flexibility. I recommend checking your plan’s out-of-network mental health/telehealth benefits or calling your insurer.

Couples vs. individual/family therapy?

This page is for partner-focused work on your shared patterns and connection. If issues involve one person's deeper individual (attach to individual page) work or family(attach to family page) dynamics, we can discuss adding individual/family sessions or referring.

Is therapy in-person or virtual?

I provide in-person marriage and couples counseling at my office in Fishers, Indiana. For couples outside the area — including Indianapolis, Carmel, and Noblesville — I offer virtual couples therapy so you can connect from anywhere in Indiana.

What if we're nervous about starting?

Most couples feel that way at first. Our free 15-minute consultation is pressure-free — just a chance to talk and see if it feels like a fit.

Can we do couples therapy if one of us has individual trauma or mental health issues?

Absolutely — many couples come with one or both partners carrying past trauma, anxiety, depression, or attachment wounds. We can address how those show up in the relationship while focusing on the shared bond. If deeper individual work is needed, we can discuss adding individual sessions or referring appropriately.

Foster and adoptive children often come from backgrounds that cause escalated or unpredictable behaviors. Parents may feel unsure how to manage them or connect emotionally — that's normal with trauma history.
Together, we learn practical steps using TBRI and attachment principles: building trust, responding with connection first, then correcting the behavior with evidence-based tools.
